​don Marsh is the alias of pianist/composer Wouter Van den Broeck (1992). A relentlessly passionate musician, Wouter has explored many different musical avenues, always searching for ways to improve and challenge himself. His investigation of the jazz tradition is evident in groups like Jake Walker, the Sounds Swing Machine and the quartet of Mathieu Najean. Historical awareness may be a key ingredient in his playing, but Wouter is also a risk-taker, an informed improviser who always tries to be present and proactive. The acoustic piano being his main tool of expression, the study of classical repertoire became inevitable in his quest for lyrical pianism. Wouter’s quintet ‘don Marsh V’ combines his love for improvisation & the classical form in a very personal way. Their debut album Marshland - centered around the idea of a ‘jazz sonata’ - was released in 2022. A second album is on the way...
